Join the thousands of volunteers from across the Valley that have been coming out to help plant trees and shrubs on one of the many tracts of the Lower Rio Grande Valley NWR! Since 1994, volunteers have helped plant nearly 600 acres. In 2009 more than 500 volunteers planted 10,000 seedlings on 15 acres. This very important project is hosted by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and Valley Proud Environmental Council. It provides the public an opportunity to be part of the conservation effort. Soon, these restored tracts of land will be full of wildlife and support many species that depend on the brush to nest, rest and feed. Because the Valley is an area where 95% of the brush has been cleared, it is especially important to protect existing habitat and restore it where possible.
